Los defensores de los Inmigrantes en NJ respaldan el Día de Acción en todo el Estado, para hacer un llamado al fin de las detenciones masivas de inmigrantes y la cooperación de I.C.E y la policía
Hay 12 eventos previstos en diferentes Condados de Nueva Jersey como parte de una acción Nacional en Solidaridad con Arizona
A través de Nueva Jersey, mas de 40 grupos religiosos, comunitarios y organizaciones cívicas, incluyendo a AFSC Programas de Derechos de los Inmigrantes, Red de Política de Inmigración de Nueva Jersey, Pax Christi Nueva Jersey, Democracia Ahora, IRATE y Primeros Amigos, así como la COALICION POR LOS DERECHOS DE LOS INMIGRANTES DEL CONDADO DE PASSAIC estarán participando en la ejecución de reuniones, marchas y vigilias en diferentes ciudades dentro de los Condados de Sussex, Cumberland, Passaic, entre otros, el Jueves, 01 de julio. El motivo es protestar por la aplicación de políticas de inmigración que están destruyendo las familias, gastando el dinero de los contribuyentes y creando inseguridad entre la poblacion. Los participantes también van a llamar la atención sobre las políticas que están en vigor en Nueva Jersey y que se asemejan a la situación en Arizona. Los organizadores están apuntando específicamente en la detención de más de 1000 inmigrantes en cinco cárceles de Condado y el Centro de Detención de Elizabeth, la aplicación de la 287 (g), los acuerdos con las carceles de los Condados de Hudson y Monmouth y más de una docena de propuestas de proyectos de ley anti-inmigrante en la legislatura estatal.
"El aumento de la seguridad en las fronteras no resolverá un sistema inútil. Leyes como la SB1070 de Arizona nos ponen en peligro de detención y deportación, incluso errónea, independientemente de nuestra condición migratoria. Los riesgos son aún mayores para los latinos explicó David Toledo, Organizador de la Comunidad en el Condado de Passaic y uno de los fundadores de la Coalición por los Derechos de los inmigrantes del Condado de Passaic.
Los eventos de "DEJEN IR A MI GENTE"; son la continuación de meses de acciones en NJ, las cuales se dieron inicio en febrero con la peregrinación del Miércoles de Ceniza desde Ellis Island hasta el Centro de Detención de Elizabeth. Otras acciones coordinadas incluyeron la organización de autobuses para trasladar a miles de residentes de NJ a DC para participar de la “Marcha por América” ; ademas de otras manifestaciones del primero de mayo que tuvieron lugar en Newark, Morristown, Hightstown y Trenton; la marcha de seis millas denominada “Passic County Marcha” el 30 de mayo en el Condado de Passaic exigiendo una nueva política de Inmigración; y la colección de miles de tarjetas postales pidiendo que una reforma de inmigracion integral sea aprobada este año, las cuales son enviadas a los miembros del Congreso por el contingente de Nueva Jersey de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de USA para la "Campaña de Justicia para los Inmigrantes y el Ministerio Legislativo de la Iglesia Unitaria Universalista de NJ.
Kathy O'Leary coordinadora de Pax Christi explicó: "Este evento es parte de una movilización permanente en todo el estado por parte de los activistas de derechos de los inmigrantes, las personas de fe, los inmigrantes recientes y los ciudadanos comunes y corrientes que están indignados por lo que está pasando en Arizona y ver los paralelismos con lo que esta pasando aquí en NJ. Estamos organizándonos para decir 'no' al racismo en todas sus formas y «sí» a la reforma migratoria ahora”.
Los eventos son parte de una acción de 8 semanas a nivel nacional denominado Verano Isaías 58, una vigilia a nivel nacional y ayuno para Arizona. El verano de Isaías 58, una" vigilia “RODANTE” de oración y ayuno, pasará de una región a otra desde el 6 de junio al 28 de julio la cual culminara con un día de ayuno que se realizar de julio 30 hasta Agosto primero, en Arizona y en todo el país. Grupos en Nueva Jersey al igual que otros en todo el país participarán en los diversos tipos del testimonio público en apoyo de la gente de Arizona, para denunciar las leyes anti-inmigrantes allí, y para enviar un mensaje a nuestros lideres a nivel local, estatal y nacional; que el actual sistema de inmigración necesita una solución justa y global y que ningún otro estado, condado o municipio debe sufrir una legislación como la de Arizona.
QUÉ: Marcha, vigilia y discursos de lideres religiosos, políticos y comunitarios. 10:00-11:00 AM y conferencia de prensa 11:00-11:30 AM, La Coalición para los Derechos de los Inmigrantes del Condado de Passaic esta apoyando el fin a las redadas, detenciones y deportaciones de los trabajadores, el fin de 287 (g) y los contratos entre el ICE y la policía local y un alto a la implementación del programa de ICE denominado “Comunidades seguras"

DONDE: Condado de Passaic (Paterson): Nos reuniremos a las 9:00 AM en la entrada lateral de la Catedral San Juan Bautista de Paterson en 381 Grand Ave. A las 10:00 AM vamos a marchar a la Corte de Familia de Paterson en el 401 Grand St, y de ahí seguiremos a la Corte del Condado ubicada en Hamilton St., posteriormente proseguiremos hasta llegar a la esquina de las avenida Main y DeGrasse en Paterson, NJ 07505, (Jardín de la Catedral de Paterson) donde iniciaremos un avigilia y oracion desde las 10:40 AM hasta las 11:00 AM y finalmente terminaremos con una conferencia de prensa de 11:00 a 11:30 AM.

NJ Advocates Hold Statewide Day of Action to Call for an End to the Mass Detention of Immigrants and to ICE/Police Cooperation
12 Events planned at County Seats across NJ as Part of Nationwide Action in Solidarity with Arizona
Across NJ – Over 40 religious, community and civic organizations including AFSC Immigrants Rights Program, Democracia Ahora , IRATE & First Friends , NJ Immigration Policy Network (NJIPN), People’s Organization for Progress, Pax Christi NJ AND PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS will host vigils, rallies and events at a dozen county seats from Sussex County to Cumberland County on Thursday, July 1st to protest local immigration enforcement policies that are tearing families apart, wasting taxpayer money and making us all less safe. Participants will be calling attention to the policies currently in place in NJ which they fear may lead to a similar situation as is happening in Arizona . Organizers are pointing specifically to the detention of over 1000 immigrants in five county jails and the Elizabeth Detention Center, 287(g) agreements with Hudson and Monmouth County jails and over a half dozen anti-immigrant bills proposed in the state legislature.
WHAT: March, vigil, press conferences and speeches regarding the Statewide day of action calling for An End to 287(g), A Halt to the Deployment of “Secure Communities”, a stop to the raids, an end to the mass detention of immigrants, and no copycat Arizona legislation in NJ
WHO: Hundreds of people of faith, immigrant rights advocates, religious leaders and community activists, including: Reverend Luis Rendon from St Agnes Church, and Julio Tavarez councilman from Paterson.
WHEN: July 01 at 10:00 A.M.
WHERE (PASSAIC COUNTY-PATERSON) We will gather at 9:00 AM in the side door of the St. John the Baptist Cathedral localized 381 Grand Ave Paterson, NJ 07505. We will march to the Family Court (491 Grand Ave) and Passaic County Court (77 Hamilton St.). We will arrive to the corner of Main Ave. and DeGrasse St. at 10:40 AM and will strat a vigil until 11:00 AM when will sytart the pres conference. the event will fonosh at 11:30 AM.
The statewide day of action is called “Let My People Go” which is both a nod to the hymn “Go Down Moses” made popular during the abolition movement and again during the civil rights movement and to the Hebrew scriptures Book of Exodus.
“Mass detention and deportations will not solve a broken system. Increased enforcement in a system in which there is little oversight and due process is often denied puts all US residents, regardless of immigration status at risk of mistaken detention and even deportation. The risks are even greater for Latinos explained David Toledo, Community Organizer from Passaic County and founder of the PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS.
The “Let My People Go” events are a continuation of months of actions in NJ beginning in February with the Ash Wednesday pilgrimage from Ellis Island to the Elizabeth Detention Center . Other coordinated actions included the organizing of buses to take thousands of NJ residents to DC for the March for America to rally for immigration reform, the May Day rallies which took place in Newark, Morristown, Hightstown and Trenton, the May 30th Passaic County March for Immigration Reform and the collection of thousands of postcards urging comprehensive immigration reform be passed this year to be sent to members of Congress by the NJ contingent of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Justice for Immigrants campaign and the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry NJ. Kathy O’Leary coordinator of Pax Christi explained, “This event is part of a continuing statewide mobilization of immigrant rights activists, people of faith, recent immigrants and ordinary citizens who are outraged at what is happening in Arizona and see the parallels to what is going on here in NJ. We are organizing to say ‘no’ to racism in all forms and ‘yes’ to immigration reform now.”
The events are part of a broader nationwide, 8-week effort called the Isaiah 58 Summer, a nationwide vigil and fast for Arizona . The Isaiah 58 Summer, a “rolling” prayer vigil and fast, will move from region to region from June 6 to July 28, culminating with a three-day fast July 30-August 1, in Arizona and across the country. NJ is participating in week four (June 27th – July 3rd). Groups in NJ like others throughout the country will engage in various types of public witness in support of the people of Arizona, to denounce the anti-immigrant law there, and to send the message to local, state and national leaders that the current immigration system needs a just and comprehensive solution which is best handled at the federal level – and that no other state, county or municipality should suffer under legislation like Arizona’s.
