The month of October includes two important festivities in Peru. In this month Peruvians celebrate their most revered religious feast and they honor their oldest city — also the most ancient city in America.


OCTOBER 2011
 
Patronal Feast Our Lady of the Rosary
Location: AncashDate: October 5 - 10
 
During this week the town of Huari pays homage to its patron virgin, Our Lady of the Rosary, with outdoor concerts, folkloric dance contests and exhibitions, theater shows, dances, sport tournaments, cockfights, bull chases and firework displays.
 
Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary 
Location: ArequipaDate: October 7 - 8
 
Every year Arequipa honors the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary with processions, prayer services and impressive firework castle displays
 
Jubilee Week in Pucallpa
Location: UcayaliDate: October 7 - 13
 
In remembrance of the first settlers and indigenous natives to populate Pucallpa, this dynamic city celebrates with concerts, sport competitions, food contests, school marches, dynamic parades and the traditional Ms. Pucallpa beauty pageant.
 
El Señor de los Milagros
Location: LimaDate: October 8 - 28
 
The Feast of the Lord of Miracles, el Señor de los Milagros, is one of the most revered religious festivities in Peru. Its main traditional ceremony is the Lord of Miracles procession, which is the largest procession in South America. During this 24-hour procession thousands of purple-clad believers follow a painting of Jesus Christ, the litter weighing about two tons, on the shoulders of faithful believers who take turns carrying it through the streets of Lima. 
 
Lord of Luren Novena

The city of Ica annually pays homage to its patron saint, the Lord of Luren, by holding a novena, masses, town dinner and a large procession attended by hundreds.
 
Anniversary of Tingo María
Location: HuanucoDate: October 10 - 16
 
Tingo María celebrates its anniversary for a week and likes to bring its rich Amazonian spirit to all the scheduled festivities. The week's events are filled with guided tours to popular tourist sites, sport tournaments, religious celebrations, food contests, school marches and handicraft fairs.
 
Feast of Martyr Santa Fortunata 
Location: MoqueguaDate: October 12 - 14
 
The city of Moquegua honors their spiritual patron Santa Fortunata by hosting a festival to her name which include folkloric dances, novinas, parades, flower bed contests and a number of processions.
 
Patron Feast of the Captive Lord
Location: PiuraDate: October 13 - 14
 
Every year thousands make a pilgrimage to the town of Ayabaca to pay visit the statue of their patron the Captive Lord of Ayabaca.  Some make the long journey carrying heavy crosses on their backs as a sign of penitence. There is also a large food fair where traditional foods, desserts and dishes are sold and shared by the locals.
 
Tourist Week in Tumbes
Location: TumbesDate: October 25 - 31
 
During this week Tumbes plays host to a number of cultural activities, including its annual beauty pageant, food expos, tourism workshops and various contests.
 
Anniversary of Caral
Location: Supe, LimaDate: October 27 - 28
 
The Sacred City of Caral, as it is popularly known in Peru is the oldest city in America. Every year it celebrates its anniversary with special guided tours through its ancient archeological site, agricultural and handicraft fairs, food expos and folkloric shows.

 
Feast of Lord of the Sea in Callao
Location: CallaoDate: October 28 - 29
 
The Lord of the Sea is a wooden statue of Christ that was found in Callao in 1756, which is considered patron of the Callao Port. Every October Callao honors its patron with a big mass and a procession through its streets in which hundreds of devotees attend.
