Important Information for Small Businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy

In case you were not able to join the conference call today offered by Governor Chris Christie with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), New Jersey Economic Development Authority and New Jersey Business Action Center senior officials, we have put together some notes and information that we hope will help you & your business.

New Jersey Economic Development Authority
The NJEDA offers immediate access to cash for your business. They offer loans and a variety of other products.

Their prominent program is the Main Street Disaster Relief program, which guarantees up to $500,000 for Commercial lines of credit. This program is designed for expedited approvals. A decision will be made within 5 days of receiving the application.

New Jersey Business Action Center
The Business Action Center acts as a "One Stop Shop" for all businesses. They also advocate for businesses and entrepreneurs to contact and get support from other State departments.
Some items that they can help with:
  • Speeding up delays related to inspections needed to re-enter your business and resume operations
  • Filing insurance claims (NJ Department of Banking & Insurance 609-292-7272)
  • Power Restoration in specific areas

U.S. Small Business Administration
The SBA is offering direct Disaster Loans for homes and rentals up to $200,000. They are also offering loans for businesses up to $2 million. Aside from loans for physical damage, the SBA is also offering loans for Economic Injury (having to close your business due to storm conditions/power outages).

FEMA
FEMA is offering assistance in getting basic needs (shelter, food & water) for individuals as well as assistance for businesses.

The Intersect Fund
The Intersect Fund is offering disaster relief loans to New Jersey small businesses that have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. These loans are targeted at businesses that will not qualify for SBA Disaster Loans.

These loans carry reduced interest rates and faster turnaround times. Businesses can apply online.
